The Journey of Healing and Connection: Abigail Henry's Vision

Updated: Mar 2

Abigail Henry is an author, healer, and creative educator devoted to helping children and adults feel safe, confident, and connected. Drawing on her background in holistic wellbeing, energy work, and mindfulness, she weaves gentle storytelling with practical tools that support emotional resilience, self-expression, and a sense of belonging. In a world where children are growing up faster than ever, learning to navigate big emotions long before they have the words for them, Abigail is gently changing the way families talk about safety, self-belief, and emotional wellbeing. Through *The Sacred Space and The Sacred Space Press, she creates spaces, both physical and in her books, where children learn that true safety begins within, and parents are supported in raising emotionally resilient, grounded little humans

The Passion: What Inspired You to Set Up Your Business?

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawn to the unseen. I feel a connection to the quiet spaces between words and the energy that moves through people. Healing begins long before we find the language for it. My journey as a healer began in Cape Town, South Africa, in 2007, when I first discovered Reiki. That one spark opened a lifelong path into energy work, spirituality, and emotional healing.

Over the years, my work has taken me across South Africa, Ireland, the UK, New Zealand, and now Australia. Each place added another layer of learning, teaching, and connection. Along the way, I discovered that what people most crave isn’t perfection or certainty, but safety. It’s the feeling of being held, understood, and at peace within themselves.

That understanding became the heartbeat of The Sacred Space. It’s a sanctuary for meditation, energy healing, and spiritual teaching. Here, I guide others to slow down, listen inwardly, and reconnect with the still, grounded presence that lives within us all. Through Reiki sessions, workshops, and guided meditations, I’ve witnessed how returning to that inner calm can transform not only the mind but the entire energetic landscape of a person’s life.

The Seed of Longing

As a mother, that same truth took on deeper meaning. When my babies were small, I realised how few stories existed that spoke about energy, grounding, or the feeling of being safe in your own body. There were books about adventure and imagination, but none that helped children recognise that real safety begins inside. Decades later, that seed of longing bloomed into my publishing venture – The Sacred Space Press.

Through The Sacred Space Press, I bring together everything I’ve learned about energy, mindfulness, and creative expression. I craft soulful books that nourish both children and adults. Each title, from reflective journals and affirmations to The Chakra Kids series, carries the same intention: to offer tools of self-awareness, emotional regulation, and spiritual connection in a way that is accessible, beautiful, and heart-centred.

Both The Sacred Space and The Sacred Space Press are born from the same vision. They aim to help people remember that they already carry within them everything they need to feel grounded, peaceful, and whole. Whether through a healing session, a meditation, or the turning of a page, my hope is that each experience becomes a gentle invitation back to that sacred space within – the place where light, love, and safety truly begin.

The Launch: How Did You Start Out in the Beginning?

In many ways, this work has always lived inside me. Even as a child, I was deeply attuned to the unseen. I sensed the moods of a room, the feelings people carried, and the quiet whispers of energy that others often missed. Healing, intuition, and a fascination with spirit were woven through my family long before I ever gave them names. My maternal grandmother read tea leaves, and my paternal grandfather was known in Northern Ireland for performing old folklore “charming” rituals – ancient blessings and healings passed down through generations. I grew up watching this quiet magic and knowing, deep down, that energy was real.

When I discovered Reiki in Cape Town, it felt like everything clicked into place. It was like remembering something I had always known. That one moment opened the path that would become my life’s work. I began offering Reiki sessions from my home, working with friends, neighbours, and soon complete strangers who arrived not just for relaxation but for transformation. Word spread naturally. There was no marketing plan, no business blueprint – just intuition, compassion, and a willingness to hold space.

Building a Community

Over time, The Sacred Space grew from those humble beginnings. It started as a room in my home where candles, crystals, and calm music created a sanctuary for healing. Eventually, it became a community – a place for meditation evenings, workshops, and soulful conversations about life, energy, and spirit.

As the years unfolded, I felt a deep inner calling to share my teachings beyond the walls of The Sacred Space. I felt a pull to reach more people and to spread what I had learned about energy, healing, and self-awareness with the greater world. Writing felt like a natural extension of my work. It allowed me to translate spiritual concepts into something creative, tangible, and accessible.

With a qualification in graphic design, I was able to bring those visions to life visually as well as spiritually. That blend of creativity and soul became the foundation for The Sacred Space Press. It was a way to merge my love of teaching, design, and storytelling into meaningful creations that could continue the work I had shared while travelling extensively around the world. Those experiences deepened my understanding of the universal need for healing, safety, and connection. Each book is a vessel for that same energy – an offering from the heart to help others reconnect with theirs.

It all began quietly – one healing, one meditation, one page at a time – guided not by strategy but by something older and deeper. A remembering. Even now, every part of what I do continues to unfold from that same place within: a lifelong devotion to energy, healing, and the unseen threads that connect us all.

The Innovation: What Was the Biggest Breakthrough for You with Your Business?

The biggest breakthrough for me was learning to truly trust what I’ve always known deep within. That quiet inner knowing has been there since childhood. For years, I doubted myself, wondering if I was enough or if I needed to follow someone else’s version of success. But the turning point came when I realised that the guidance I’d been seeking was already inside me.

When I stopped overthinking and started listening – really listening – everything began to flow. I followed what felt right, not what I thought I should do, and that changed everything. I started believing in myself, in my gifts, and in the quiet power of intuition. With that came a new kind of confidence. It wasn’t the loud, external kind, but a grounded, inner certainty that I was walking the path I was meant to.

Blossoming Opportunities

That’s when both The Sacred Space and The Sacred Space Press began to blossom. Once I trusted myself enough to let my work be guided by heart rather than fear, opportunities unfolded naturally. The right people, collaborations, and moments of synchronicity began to appear. It was as if life was saying, “See? You were never meant to doubt yourself.”

Believing in myself – fully and unapologetically – has been the most transformative breakthrough of all. It taught me that confidence isn’t about having it all figured out; it’s about trusting that you already have everything you need within you.

Yin and Yang: How Do You Balance Work and Family?

For me, balance isn’t about doing everything perfectly. It’s about moving with awareness and intention. There are seasons when my work flows endlessly, and my creative energy is high. There are also times when life asks me to slow down, to rest, and to simply be present with the people I love. I’ve learned to honour both.

As a healer and creator, my work is deeply woven into who I am. However, I’ve also learned the importance of grounding myself outside of it. I protect my quiet moments fiercely: nature walks, cups of tea in the garden, travel, meditation, and laughter with my family and friends. These are the anchors that keep me steady.

The Flow of Energy

When my energy is balanced, everything else flows. My family feels it, my clients feel it, and the work itself becomes more aligned. I’ve stopped chasing the idea of “work-life balance” as something to achieve. Instead, I see it as a living dance – one guided by intuition, boundaries, and heart.

There’s a deep peace in realising that my family, my work, and my spiritual life don’t compete; they nourish each other. When I’m centred and present, I can give more – not from depletion, but from overflow.

The Drive: What Challenges Have You Overcome?

One of my greatest challenges has been learning to believe in myself. I had to trust that the vision I carry is worthy, even when the path ahead isn’t clear. As a sensitive soul, stepping out into the world as a healer, teacher, and author took courage. There were times of deep doubt, moments when I questioned whether I was enough, or whether anyone would understand the kind of work I was creating.

Embracing Sensitivity

The truth is, walking a spiritual and creative path often means walking it differently. There’s no map – just faith, intuition, and the willingness to keep going even when no one else can quite see what you see. I’ve had to overcome the fear of being visible, of sharing my voice, and of trusting that my sensitivity – the very thing I once saw as a weakness – is actually my greatest strength.

There were also practical challenges: building something from the ground up, learning the world of publishing, technology, and marketing – all while staying true to the soul of my work. I made mistakes, learned as I went, and found that every setback held a quiet lesson in resilience.

But the real drive has always come from love – for what I do, for the people I serve, and for the message that healing begins within. Each time I’ve faced uncertainty, I’ve come back to that truth. It’s what keeps me grounded, inspired, and willing to rise again – no matter what the challenge looks like.

For Better or Worse: What Are the Pros and Cons of Running Your Own Business?

Running your own business is both a gift and a growth journey. The greatest blessing for me is freedom. I have the ability to create work that feels deeply aligned with my soul and to express my purpose in a way that feels authentic. I get to weave my own rhythm: meditations, healing sessions, writing, designing, and publishing books that truly mean something. Every day feels connected to something bigger than “work.” It’s a continuation of who I am.

The Weight of Responsibility

But with that freedom also comes responsibility and vulnerability. It asks for constant trust – in yourself, in your vision, and in the timing of things. There are days when doubt creeps in or the workload feels overwhelming. During those times, I have to return to my grounding practices and remind myself why I began.

The lines between work and life can blur easily, especially when your work comes from the heart. The key, I’ve learned, is to stay anchored. I pause, breathe, and remember that success isn’t about how much you do, but how present and aligned you feel while doing it.

For better or worse, this path has shaped me in ways I never expected. It’s taught me resilience, patience, and the quiet art of trusting my own energy. To me, that is the greatest reward of all.

Hopes and Dreams: What Next?

My hopes and dreams moving forward are rooted in both purpose and passion. I’ve completed the first book of seven in The Chakra Kids series – I Am Safe – Luna & Bindi the Bear Find Their Roots – and I’m now working on the remaining six books. Each one explores a different chakra through story, mindfulness, and emotional awareness. They help children connect with their feelings and build confidence from the inside out.

I would love to see these books reach schools and early learning centres at a grassroots level. They can support Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and empower educators, parents, and carers to nurture mindfulness, empathy, and emotional literacy in little ones from the very beginning.

Through The Sacred Space Press, my dream is for my adult books to reach people from all walks of life. I want to connect with those seeking spiritual growth, emotional healing, or simply a gentler way of being. I would also love to see my books available in mental health practices, holistic centres, and wellbeing spaces as tools for reflection, healing, and conversation. This can help bridge the gap between emotional wellbeing and spiritual awareness.

Through The Sacred Space, I hope to continue offering healing circles, meditations, and workshops. These will help people return to their inner calm and remember their own light.

Ultimately, I want my work – both written and spoken – to continue planting seeds of awareness, safety, and self-belief. I aim to remind children and adults alike that peace begins within, and from there, everything beautiful can grow.
